Brinjal belongs to tomato and potato family. It is a nightshade plant. It is very good for heart. Brinjal also has vitamin K which removes calcification of arteries – that is, hardening of arteries due to the presence of insoluble calcium components. The red-blue pigment found in brinjal is known as flavonoid. It has anthocyanin, a compound that is good for lowering blood pressure. All these ingredients make brinjal a heart friendly food. Brinjal is good for regulating the blood pressure. Vitamin E also helps to reduce blood pressure. Brinjal is rich in a kind of fibre that has high amounts of alpha glucosidose, and angiotensin compounds. They control glucose absorption. Brinjal also has phenols that aids insulin break down carbohydrates into blood sugar in a gradual and incremental manner. This avoids sugar spikes.
