Green peas are world’s favorite spring vegetables. Also known as "garden peas", they are small, spherical seeds that come from pods. They have sweet taste, starchy texture, and good flavor. Green peas are a low fat and a low calorie food type. They are one of the best plant-based sources of protein and fiber. Their calorie content is fairly low. This vegetable contains sugar and starch, and also a unique assortment of health-protective phytonutrients. Green peas are quite nutritious and contain a fair amount of fiber and antioxidants in addition to their concentration of vitamins and minerals. The carotenoid phytonutrients, lutein and zeaxanthin present in green peas are known to promote vision and eye health.
